Charles Dixon’s most celebrated works are primarily naval scenes in the medium of watercolour. Charles studied under his father, genre painter Alfred Dixon, and soon had a successful practice producing nautical and maritime scenes. At 17, Dixon had his first of many works exhibit at the Royal Academy. Subsequently, he would record an 170 exhibited watercolours at the Royal Institute. Amongst his works is a large number produced for magazines and periodics, including the British illustrated newspaper The Graphic. In 1900 he was named a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Several of Dixon’s paintings are now in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in London.
