Note:

On the morning of May 18, 1896 over 500,000 people gathered in Khodynka Field in Moscow in anticipation of the distribution of gifts (including this lot) in celebration of the coronation. In the ensuing chaos over 1,000 were trampled to death, hence the monikers, ‘Cup of Sorrows’ and ‘Bloody Tumbler’.
