Lots 452 to 456- An Important Toronto Collection of Qing Dynasty Jade Carvings. Acquired mostly during the 1970's from dealers and auctions in the USA

Note:

Tan Zi is considered one of the paragons of filial piety. He was a poor boy who would wear a deer skin so that he can approach deer to get their milk for his ailing parents. The legend has it that he was fatally shot with an arrow by a prince out hunting. The prince, who was overcome with respect for Tan Zi’s sacrifice, took over the honour of caring for the parents from then on
